If you know the work of the late, great Jay Reatard, then there's good chance you've heard Digital Leather. After kicking around for a few years, Jay and DL frontman Shawn Foree became close friends, with Jay releasing a 7" split with his band Angry Angles and DL on his own Shattered Records and later the 'Monologue' LP as well. Digital Leather went on to see releases on Tic Tac Totally!, FDH and Goner, among others, with Jay eventually acting as manager and helping DL get signed to Fat Possum, who released the much-lauded 'Warm Brother' LP. After Jay's death, Shawn ditched Fat Possum and headed to Berlin for a retreat, spending the next couple of years recording a bevy of material, which eventually made its way to the 'Infinite Sun' 12" on Volar, the 'Sponge' cassette on Crash Symbols, and the just-released 'Modern Problems' LP, again on FDH. Digital Leather plays their first San Diego show in years next Monday at the Soda Bar, with local drum-machine punks Stalins of Sound and the second show ever of the great Tar Halos, who will be releasing an LP on Volar this summer.
